SBU sets goal to double endowment

Posted online
Southwest Baptist University has set its sights on more than doubling its endowment to $40 million in the next five years.

The school announced its campaign goal at the annual Private Scholarship Appreciation Luncheon, held Nov. 1 at the Bolivar campus. Officials hope to raise $20 million, in addition to the current endowment of about $19 million, according to a school news release.

About 285 donors and students attended the recent luncheon.

Private scholarships account for $10 million of the current endowment. The school awarded 305 scholarships for 2007–08, 237 of which are endowed with a minimum investment of $10,000 each. The scholarships are divided among more than 475 students.

Scholarship recipients are selected every January for the following academic year.
