What Readers Think

Face-to-face

You connect better with your co-workers or customers. E-mail, text and voicemail tend to isolate and separate.

Ed Hodge, Positronic Industries

E-mail

People seem to respond quicker via e-mail. Also, in my case if I have something important I’m working on, I can finish it and then respond to the e-mail, instead of sounding impatient on the phone or putting them in voicemail. (That) sometimes makes people feel like they are being put off. I am a Gen X-er, by the way.

Mike Pearce, Graybar-Springfield

They are so quick to answer a question, they save paper and they allow small talk to mean more (because there is less of it).

Kevin Rusenstrom, Elfindale Retirement

One reason: accountability.

Marisa DeClue, Metropolitan National Bank

I can organize my thoughts to get my point across before just opening my mouth and talking in circles, with one response leading to another thought and so on. Plus, if there’s an issue that needs to be discussed in person, you can schedule an appropriate time for it, rather than interrupting what you’re working on. Also, you have something to look back on if you tend to forget details!

Tiffany Samples, Clear Channel Communications
