What Readers Think
Cassil’s Coffee Café
Cassil’s is top notch, fun, personable and has great amenities, but you forgot Big Momma’s Coffee House on Commercial Street. It’s a “must stop” on the north side.
—Jennifer Farquhar, Red Books & Chairs
Cassil’s Coffee is an all-around customer-friendly operation. From the first time I visited about two years ago, they have made every effort to make me feel welcome and appreciated. … I have used the catering services on several occasions with rave reviews from my customers. I also have used the backroom for a customer-training event.
—Dave Holden, Anco Division of Chem-Aqua
The Coffee Ethic
The coffee is wonderful and the place itself is relaxing, peaceful, and just a great place to enjoy the pleasure of their coffee.
—Terry D. Mitchell, Consultation and Solution Services
Mudhouse
The Mudhouse is the original downtown coffeehouse. With the exception of the chains, all the others are copycats benefiting from the Mudhouse’s success. I keep coming back because of the atmosphere, the diversity of the customers and the clear superiority of their in-house-roasted coffees and wide selection of teas. The food and desserts are great; I am addicted to the Healthy Morning muffins. I find the staff consistently courteous and efficient. I also appreciate the owners’ continuous support of local artists.
—John T. Carlock, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Kansas City Field Office
Primarily because of location and consistent quality of product and service. My bride and I enjoy downtown. We park our vehicle and walk to the different places we frequent. …
We do enjoy any time we go to Panera, Starbucks and Kaldi’s, but they just are not where we go for a night out. We will probably try Coffee Ethic sometime soon.
—Buck Van Hooser, Prestressed Casting Co.
Other
Big Momma’s was not an option. I frequent the Mudhouse, Coffee Ethic, Panera and other places, but Big Momma’s has the best latte and I believe that it should at least be on your list. I know that their traffic is as high as Coffee Ethic. … When the Library is open, that may be different.
—Bob McCroskey, McCroskey Real Estate
For my money, I prefer Hot Shots. They have a very busy shop on Sunshine, and they have recently opened a coffeehouse in the Evangel University Student Union.
—Paul K. Logsdon, Evangel University
Hot Shots on East Sunshine is the place for coffee.
—Kevin Rusenstrom, Elfindale Retirement Community
I am an Anton’s girl. I personally prefer the “mom-and-pop” kind of place to a fancier coffee experience. But Kaldi’s is great, too.
