SBJ wins seven Missouri Press Association awards

Springfield Business Journal garnered seven awards during the 147th annual Missouri Press Association convention, held Sept. 7 in Kansas City.

SBJ was part of the Class 2 Weeklies category for a circulation of 3,001 to 7,000. Columbia-based Missouri Press Association, founded in 1867, represents more than 260 newspapers in Missouri.

SBJ won first place for Best Breaking News Story, "Restaurateur Swisshelm files for Ch. 7 bankruptcy," by Geoff Pickle.

The editorial team also won:
  • second place for Best Coverage of Government, "City officials wrestle with E-verify law," by Brian Brown;
  • second place for Best Columnist-Serious, Eric Olson;
  • third place for Best Business Story, "It Pays to Win," by Brown;
  • third place for Best Online Newspaper or Website;
  • third place for Best Page Design; and
  • honorable mention for Best Front-to-Back Newspaper Design.
