Springfield Business Journal took home two national awards this weekend during the Alliance of Area Business Publishers’ annual conference in Des Moines, Iowa.
In the small tabloids category for best overall design, SBJ won second place.
“Springfield offers its readers a fast-moving, high-vitality publication,” judges wrote of the silver award. “The pages are full of photos and pullouts. Still, when it comes time to pause, they offer features with type that tells and sells and ample white space to set off the packages.”
SBJ also won a third-place bronze award for best newspaper among small tabloids.
Judges pointed to story packages for “The Millennial Mindset” and “CEO Roundtable” as examples of strong headlines and design.
“Each issue is filled with information that gives residents a strong sense of the city and its businesses,” the judges wrote.
During the three-day conference, the AABP presented 112 awards to business newspapers and magazines, including Los Angeles Business Journal, Crain’s Chicago Business and Florida Trend magazine. There were 644 entries from 46 publications in the United States, Canada and Australia, according to a news release.
Springfield event venue Belamour LLC gained new ownership; The Wok on West Bypass opened; and Hawk Barber & Shop closed on a business purchase that expanded its footprint to Ozark.
