SBJ has double win at Missouri Press Association contest

Posted online
Springfield Business Journal snagged two industry awards last weekend at Missouri Press Association’s annual Better Newspaper Contest ceremony in Columbia.

The awards were handed out Saturday as part of the 142nd MPA Convention at the University of Missouri-Columbia. SBJ garnered a first-place plaque for Best Web Site and a second-place certificate for Best Local Business Coverage.

Judges called SBJ’s Web site, sbj.net, “easy to navigate; boxes of info easy to manipulate; not overwhelming; like online poll; calendar good; advertising not too overwhelming; colors good.”

Earning SBJ the award for business coverage was the publication’s “good use of graphics to help tell stories, especially the ‘Power to the People’ package – a very compelling, thoughtful and well-sourced project. Also, overall good use of the sidebars and nontraditional story forms. Very much like the interactive component of the ‘Eyes & Ears’' column.”
