SBC Communications expands DSL network

As the result of a significant network expansion by SBC Communications, the company's DSL Internet service now is available to more than 85,400 Springfield homes and businesses. |ret||ret||tab|

According to a news release from SBC Southwestern Bell, the network was expanded via connections to newly deployed neighborhood broadband gateways which have high-speed DSL Internet capabilities. The number of businesses and homes that now can be served by SBC's DSL Internet service represents an increase of more than 94 percent.|ret||ret||tab|

"As the availability and awareness of broadband technology increases, the demand for DSL Internet service explodes. The neighborhood broadband gateways we're deploying will help readily meet that demand and make the broadband lifestyle available to many more residents and businesses in Springfield," said Pat Bly, director of external affairs for SBC Southwestern Bell. |ret||ret||tab|

The high-speed DSL Internet service offers users the ability to "instantly connect" to the Internet without being delayed. With the service, large files, such as music, photos, videos and graphics also can be downloaded in seconds. Other services available with DSL Internet include home networking and videoconferencing. |ret||ret||tab|
