Saudis say Iran, not Israel, is top enemy

A survey quietly conducted in Saudi Arabia by the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya, Israel, has found the Saudi public sees Iran and the Islamic State as greater enemies than Israel. In fact, the vast majority of Saudis support a decade-old peace proposal with the Jewish state.

According to the survey, 53 percent of Saudis picked Iran as their chief adversary, while 22 percent named the Islamic State and 18 percent said Israel. The poll, which was done in conjunction with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, conducted phone interviews with 506 Saudis over a two-week period. The survey has a margin of error of 5 percentage points.

And 85 percent also support the Saudi-led Arab Peace Initiative, which calls for peace with Israel and a return to its pre-1967 borders.
