Project description: Described by its developers as an innovative affordable housing project intertwined with a business incubator and retail space, Sankofa is designed to include 42 units, from studio to two-bedroom, for households earning 50%-60% of area median income. The design incorporates five retail spaces on the first floor in a building that will remain owned by The Vecino Group LLC. The total project cost, as previously reported in Springfield Business Journal, is $13.5 million. Architect is Vecino Design LLC, which is also handling mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering. Other engineers are Own Inc., civil and landscape/geotechnical; and Stand Structural Engineering Inc. (Overland Park), structural.
