An internal probe by Samsung found the main reason some Galaxy Note 7 smartphones caught fire was the battery, people familiar with the matter told Reuters.
Investors and analysts are calling on a full explanation of what went wrong with the Note 7 ahead of the release of the Galaxy S8. The results of the investigation are likely to be revealed Jan. 23, a day ahead of the company's fourth-quarter earnings release.
"They've got to make sure they come clean and they've got to reassure buyers as to why this won't happen again," said Bryan Ma, a Singapore-based analyst for researcher IDC.
