Sam's Club to open doors to all this weekend

Posted online

Sam's Club stores nationwide, including the two Springfield locations, will hold an open house Aug. 6 through Aug. 8, opening its doors to nonmembers throughout the duration.

During the weekend, nonmembers who shop at the store will not be assessed the usual 10 percent service fee, according to a Sam's news release.

“We’re hosting this open house to welcome families with children in school and college to experience how Sam’s Club can simplify their back-to-school shopping,” Membership Senior Vice President Mike Turner said in the release. “This event is also ideal for small-business owners to try Sam’s Club and let us show how we can save them both time and money with member benefits."

Sam's Club, a division of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., is typically a member's-only store for individuals and businesses. The company recently added a small-business loan program through the U.S. Small Business Administration, according to Springfield Business Journal coverage.

The two Springfield locations are at 3660 E. Sunshine and 745 W. El Camino Alto Drive.

The event coincides with the state's sales tax holiday, where items such as clothes, computers and school supplies will be exempt from state sales tax. Greene County, however, opted out of the holiday, according to SBJ coverage.
