Sam’s Club jumps into auto sales with TrueCar partnership

Sam’s Club is partnering with online car-shopping service TrueCar Inc. to boost sales in the company’s fledgling auto program.

The warehouse division of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. previously worked with a third-party service to market cars on its website during the last year, but did not operate its own program. The new deal would give Sam’s Club members access to more than 10,000 TrueCar dealers for new and used vehicles.

Sam’s comparable sales rose 1.3 percent last quarter – minus fuel costs – but lagged behind rival Costco Wholesale Corp, which sells nearly 400,000 vehicles a year through its auto sales unit.
