Sales are up according to area figures

Statistics on real estate sales in the Springfield area show increases across the board compared to the same time in 1997, with a sales volume of $508.4 million through Nov. 19. For the period ended Nov. 20, 1997, sales of $447.1 million were reported.

Figures compiled by the Greater Springfield Board of Realtors and its Multilist Service show that new listings, sales, and average sale price are all up in the area compared to 1997.

The figures include information from Greene, Christian and Webster Counties.

In 1998 there were 14,571 new listings through Nov. 19. That's up from the 14,190 new listings recorded through Nov. 20 in 1997.

This year 5,604 sales have been recorded, compared to 5,150 sales reported in 1997 during the same period. The average sales price is up as well, to $94,501 so far in 1998 as compared to $90,381 in 1997.

In the third quarter alone sales showed increases as well, with 1,373 sales reported, up from 1,271 in the third quarter of 1997.

Residential sales in October, the last full month with statistics available, showed sales of 344 for the month, up from 331 sold in October 1997. The average sale price in October was $99,763, up compared to October 1997 when the average sales price was $94,966.

Year-to-date through the end of October, the average sale price in the Springfield area was $101,412, compared with $95,872 a year ago.
