The Sackler family behind OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma agreed to pay $6 billion in a new opioid settlement.
An earlier deal had been appealed by eight states and the District of Columbia. They've now signed on under the condition that the Sacklers pay more and accept other terms, including apologizing.
The Sackler family must give up control of the company so it can be turned into a new entity with profits used to fight the opioid crisis.
