Russell Cellular Inc. is boosting employee wages to the tune of $16 million.
That's the annual investment to provide companywide employee raises, according to a news release. The Battlefield-based Verizon wireless retail agent is increasing its starting hourly wage to $15 per hour, with sales associates receiving a minimum of a $1 increase in hourly base pay to $5 per hour, plus commissions.
“We believe it is the right thing to do to invest in our team members," said Jeven Russell, the company's vice president of operations, in the release. "We know it has been a challenging time since the beginning of the pandemic, and this is recognition of the hard work our teams have delivered.”
The wage hike comes amid rapid revenue growth for Russell Cellular, which has 711 stores. The company is projecting that 2021 revenue will exceed $800 million, up from $664.5 million in 2020.
Part of Russell Cellular's growth trajectory has been fueled by acquisitions. This summer, the company announced its expansion into four new states through the purchases of IM Wireless and Select Communications.
The company has more than 2,400 employees, according to the release.
