Russell Cellular breaks ground for new headquarters

Posted online
Russell Cellular broke ground May 9 for what will be the Alltel agent’s new corporate headquarters at 5624 S. Highway FF in Battlefield.

The company is currently located in Springfield at 3023 S. Kimbrough Ave., where it’s been for about 12 years, Vice President Kym Russell said. She and husband Jeff, the company’s president, were looking for additional space and a quieter, more “residential” spot for its base, and the small-but-growing community of Battlefield provides just that, she said. The Russells reside in Battlefield.

“We just wanted to be … off the retail path,” Kym Russell said. “The property in Battlefield is economical enough that it was worth doing it there. It’s easy access now that Highway FF is completed. And the city of Battlefield has been real great to work with.”

The cost for the land and construction of the 8,600-square-foot facility is about $900,000, according to Russell. Paul Dock of Dock Brothers Construction Co. is the general contractor.

Russell said she expects to be up and running in the new location by Dec. 1, right around the company’s 15th anniversary. Russell Cellular’s 15 to 20 corporate office employees will make the move then, and there are no plans to hire additional workers right now, Russell said.

Russell Cellular had $21.03 million in 2007 revenues and experienced 88 percent revenue growth since 2005, ranking it No. 8 among Springfield Business Journal’s 2008 Dynamic Dozen. The company has 66 stores in six states and is set to open five new stores in the next 90 days, all in its existing markets, Russell said.[[In-content Ad]]
