RushCard ordered to pay $13M in fines, restitution

RushCard and its payment processor, MasterCard, have been ordered by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to pay $13 million in fines and restitution.

The order comes more than a year after RushCard’s prepaid debit card system denied thousands of customers access to their cash. The problem occurred due to technical issues.

“Companies will face the consequences if consumers are denied access to their money,” CFPB Director Richard Cordray said. “All of this stemmed from a series of failures that should have been anticipated and prevented.”
