Rush for bond purchases crashes Treasury website

With a Friday deadline approaching, investors reported outages on a Treasury Department website as they tried to buy bonds.

The TreasuryDirect website was down at times on Wednesday.

Investors are seeking to buy inflation-protected I bonds, which pay a guaranteed 9.62%.
