RPCS reopens Tulsa stores under new name

Posted online
Springfield-based RPCS Inc., which owns Price Cutter, Ramey’s and Smitty’s grocery stores, opened its first locations in Oklahoma last week under a new moniker: Food Pyramid.

RPCS purchased nine grocery stores and three fuel centers, all in the Tulsa, Okla., area, from Albertsons LLC in June.

Immediate changes include reduced prices and an upgrade in beef quality, according to a company news release. New features to be introduced gradually include a full-service Starbucks, a $3 prescription program and an increased selection of organic and international foods and fresh sushi.

The new stores bring RPCS’ operations to 43 retail stores, 28 in-store pharmacies, 11 Starbucks, three restaurants and three fuel centers. Officials estimate 1,000 employees were added to the company’s payroll through the purchase, bringing its base to about 2,800 workers.
