In just two months, Roseanne Barr’s sitcom “Roseanne” was back on the air after a two decade absence and then it was gone again.
ABC abruptly canceled the show hours after Barr posted a racist tweet about Valerie Jarrett, an African-American woman who was a senior adviser to Barack Obama throughout his presidency. Barr wrote if the “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.”
Barr later apologized and deleted the tweet, but it was too late. The show will not return in September as expected for a planned 13-episode run. The move by ABC officials was almost without precedent, the New York Times reports, because “Roseanne” had the highest ratings of a new TV series in years and brought in an estimated $45 million of advertising revenue this year.
