The Missouri Department of Transportation expects most of the construction work to occur away from traffic, according to a news release, but any work requiring lane closings will be done between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Business entrances at the intersection will remain open, although workers may need to close half of an entrance at a time, the release said.
Local firm Hartman Construction is the lead contractor on the $876,230 project, which is a MoDOT and city of Springfield partnership. It calls for widening to accommodate two left-turn lanes in all four directions, widening and lengthening of right-turn lanes, new traffic signals, new storm drains, and new sidewalks with handicapped accessible ramps.
The project is scheduled for completion in November, though MoDOT said Hartman expects to finish early. It is funded by the city’s 1/8-cent sales tax for street and traffic improvements.
