Japan's Honda Motor and Yamaha Motor are joining forces to produce scooters for the market.
The rivals have previously fought for Japanese dominance. In 1980, the battle became so bitter it was known as the HY War.
Now, Yamaha will shift production of 50cc scooters for the home market from Taiwan to Honda's Kumamoto factory in southern Japan. Honda is expected to start supplying the scooters to Yamaha on an original equipment manufacturer basis around 2018.
