The Springfield Public Schools Board of Education has extended its contract with Superintendent Norm Ridder through the 2012-13 school year following the board's annual performance review, the district announced Thursday.
The board unanimously voted for the contract extension during its executive session on Tuesday. Board President Gerry Lee cited several factors in the decision, including quality improvement efforts, the successful passage of a bond issue in February, and effective financial management during the down economy.
The superintendent's current total compensation is $201,193, including a $45,000 annuity, according to district spokeswoman Teresa Bledsoe. Under the terms of the contract extension, any salary increase in Ridder's compensation for the 2012-13 school year would match the percentage of teacher raises for that year, Bledsoe said.
"We are very pleased with his performance and believe Dr. Ridder is guiding our district in the right direction," Lee said in a news release. "Particularly in these difficult economic times, he is doing an outstanding job of managing our district and making decisions that foster a quality educational system for the benefit our students, staff and our community."
Ridder's performance is judged in seven categories, according to the release: leadership; strategic planning; stakeholder and market focus; measurement, analysis and knowledge management; human resources; process management; and performance results.
Ridder joined the Springfield schools as superintendent before the 2005-06 school year.
