The city of Ozark is working on a revitalization plan for its downtown. Laura Jean Derrick, AIA, has established recommendations for revitalization, among them plans for expanding downtown parking and streetscaping.
Parking and traffic recommendations include changing parallel parking on side streets to diagonal parking, similar to what was done on Springfield's South Avenue, and defining short-term and long-term parking areas.
Other recommended changes include installing stop signs and allowing for truck and bus parking outside the immediate area of the square.
Streetscaping recommendations include the addition of tree planters; islands at intersections where stop signs will be located, planted with flowers or grass; handicapped-accessible curbing and sidewalks, light poles with banner frames for specific events or seasons, and park bench and trash can placement.
