Retail sales were up 0.6% in August on a month-over-month basis, according to the latest data from the Commerce Department.
The August figure compares with a revised 0.6% increase in July.
In August, sales at auto vehicle and parts dealers rose 0.5%, and online retailers saw a 2% increase.
