Retail plaza going up on vacant south Springfield land

A nearly 14,000-square-foot retail development is underway and scheduled to open in October on East Independence Street adjacent to Macadoodles and across the street from FFO Home.
Brian Kubik, president of project architect Buxton Kubik Dodd Creative, said the three-unit Paige Reese Plaza, 1435 E. Independence St., has two tenants on board.
Ann’s Performing Arts Centre is relocating to over 6,000 square feet from its current studio at 1440 E. Lark St., and Harrison, Ark.-based Neighbor's Mill Bakery & Cafe has signed on to open its second restaurant and its first in Missouri in roughly 5,500 square feet.
Springfield-based Construct Design Build is general contractor on the project that also has a nearly 2,000-square-foot center unit.
Paula Cook Daugherty, vice president of media development for Loren Cook Co., bought the property from George Thompson in October for an undisclosed amount. The 2.7-acre site has a 2015 taxable appraised value of $560,800, according to the Greene County assessor’s website.
“My husband and I have both wanted to do something like this,” she said, declining to estimate the project’s cost. “We felt like the area is growing over there.

A relocation to Nixa from Republic and a rebranding occurred for Aspen Elevated Health; Kuick Noodles LLC opened; and Phelps County Bank launched a new southwest Springfield branch.
