“This year is one of only a few times we’ve had the RCI Convention in Missouri, and the first time ever in Springfield,” said RCI Executive Director Van Billington in a news release.
The event is based at the University Plaza Hotel & Convention Center, but activities included an optional day trip yesterday to Branson and a tour day today in Springfield, Joplin and Carthage. Tour participants will visit Askinosie Chocolate Co. on Commercial Street and Candy House Gourmet Chocolate facilities in Springfield and Joplin. Visitors also will visit Precious Moments Chapel and Gift Shop in Carthage.
Today’s activities will be capped with a welcome reception at Bass Pro Shops and Wonders of Wildlife.
“This convention location promises a great mix of educational, informational, social and fellowship opportunities,” Billington said. “It provides the perfect forum for us to get together as a group.”
Tomorrow, Bass Pro Shops President and Chief Operating Officer Jim Hagale will present the keynote address, and various speakers will present seminars with topics relevant to the confectionery industry.
The annual Candy Clinic will be held tomorrow afternoon. Attendees will display innovative ideas that have served them well in the past year. The ideas are voted on by all attendees, with an awards banquet to be held Sunday evening.
The trade show and exposition, open only to convention attendees, is at University Plaza and will provide an up-close view of the latest developments in packaging and supplies for the industry. The trade show is slated to have 45 exhibitors with 70 booths.
