Rescue One plans new operations center

Rescue One, a Springfield-based nonprofit that connects foster pets with permanent owners, has growth plans in the works.

The nonprofit, which also offers medical services for rescues, announced in a newsletter this week that it raised enough funds to buy a 4-acre property in northwest Springfield for the future home of an operations center. Next up is a planned capital campaign in 2022 to develop the building at 3859 W. Nichols St., located southwest of the Interstate 44 and West Bypass interchange.

The financial details of the plan were not disclosed in the newsletter, and officials could not be reached immediately for comment by deadline.

Rescue One, which currently operates out of a small clinic in a strip center suite, is planning a 14,000-square-foot building that would increase its ability to house animals and provide greater veterinary services. NForm Architecture LLC is listed as the project architect.

"Our main focus with this new project is to help fill in the gaps for animals in need in our community," officials said in the newsletter.

Formed in 2013, Rescue One has worked with more than 7,700 animals to date, according to its website.
