Matt Pearce will retire June 30 as superintendent of the Republic School District, but he will not stay unemployed for long.
Three weeks later, he will begin a new role with Florida-based Studer Education LLC, a consulting firm that helps school district officials achieve strategic goals, improve culture and develop leaders.
Pearce plans to work remotely, although the job will require some travel. He starts July 20.
“I’m going to work parttime for them,” he said in a recent interview. “It’s about school leadership and strong practices so that the staff and the community and the school has a great culture and good learning results.”
Pearce has spent three decades as an educator in Missouri, starting in Springfield Public Schools. He moved to the Republic district 13 years ago, spending seven as assistant superintendent of academics before stepping into the top job.
He said Studer values leadership training and continuous improvement.
“It’s a philosophy that I 100% agree with,” he said. “Training up your leaders pays dividends because no organization is going to exceed the capacity of its leadership team.”
Tyler Overstreet, Republic’s assistant superintendent of academics, will succeed Pearce in the district’s top job on July 1.
Workforce training program operated by Victory Mission and Ministry started mid-May.
