The city of Republic's mayor since April 2017 submitted his resignation.
Jeff Ussery cited plans to spend more time with family as he takes on a new role in his career, according to a news release. Ussery's LinkedIn profile indicates he's served as director of safety and security for Herschend Family Entertainment Corp. since October 2019. He previously was HFE's safety and security manager.
“While I have absolutely loved serving as your mayor, I have to consider the time constraints I have in life currently and the effect that has on my family," Ussery said in the release. "As much as I love serving in this part-time capacity, I have to focus on my family and my full-time career."
Ussery was re-elected as mayor in April this year. His exit is slated for July 21, when he'll attend his final council meeting.
Mayor Pro-Tem Matt Russell will serve as mayor in the interim. A date for an election to fill the seat will be announced in the coming weeks, according to the release.
The Republic School District is on track to open its Intermediate School for fifth- and sixth-grade students for the 2025-26 academic year.
