Republic leadership considering next steps for hiring new city admin

Posted online

Republic Mayor Eric Franklin says his city’s council and leadership team are evaluating the steps to take for a smooth and thoughtful transition for its next city administrator.

With the selection of Republic City Administrator David Cameron as the next Springfield city manager, Republic has a vacancy to fill.

“While no decisions have been finalized yet, our priority is ensuring stability and continuity for our organization and the community we serve,” Franklin said via email. “We will be approaching the process of selecting Republic’s next city administrator with intention, guided by our core values and the long-term vision we’ve set for the city.”

The city’s mission statement, located on its website, states Republic will be “aggressively progressive through processes, relationships and trust.” Its vision statement calls on Republic residents “to grow together by always doing the right thing at the right time for the right reason.”

A timeline for Cameron’s replacement has not been set. His last official day on the job is July 5, but he told Springfield Business Journal via text that his last day in his office will be June 13.

Before Cameron is officially declared Springfield’s city manager, council must pass an ordinance in a two-meeting process – a public hearing followed by a council vote – to approve him. The ordinance will be introduced in the first of the meetings on May 19.

Franklin said Republic’s leadership remains focused on delivering on its mission without disruption.

“We’ll be sharing updates with the community as plans come into clearer focus,” he said.

Franklin also congratulated Springfield on its selection of Cameron.

“David Cameron’s leadership has been instrumental in shaping Republic,” he said. “While we will certainly miss his presence here, we’re proud to see him take on this new role.”
