Top aides to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo last year altered a report of the count of nursing home coronavirus deaths, according to media reports.
The aides reportedly asked the state Health Department to remove an initial report of deaths in July. The released report indicated roughly 6,400 nursing-home residents had died, short of the 9,200 in the original draft.
State officials say the edits were made because of concerns about accuracy, not to protect Cuomo’s reputation.
