United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby approached Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian about a merger last year, people familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal.
The talks did not advance after "preliminary due diligence" was conducted, according to the report.
United and Delta declined to comment on the report, according to Fox Business.
