A report released by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates estimated retail cargo imports will grow 4.9 percent during the first half of the year.
“We’re forecasting significant sales growth this year and that means retailers will have to import more merchandise to meet consumer demand,” said Jonathan Gold, vice president for supply chain and customs policy at the NRF.
The cargo estimate came a day after the NRF estimated 2018 retail sales would grow between 3.8 and 4.4 percent over 2018's $3.5 trillion.
