Elon Musk and the so-called Department of Government Efficiency have been granted access to the Treasury Department's payment system, people familiar with the matter told The New York Times.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, confirmed by the Senate last week, reportedly granted access. Top Treasury official David Lebryk had resisted the move, but then was placed on leave and suddenly retired.
The Treasury Department's payment system sends out money on behalf of the entire federal government.
