Posted online
Women who worked full-time wage or salaried positions in Missouri last year earned nearly 23 percent less than their male counterparts, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In 2015, female workers’ median weekly earnings were $667, equating to 77.3 percent of the $863 median weekly earnings brought in by men. The female-to-male earnings ratio in the Show-Me State dropped by 0.6 percentage points from 2014, according to a news release.

Missouri women are worse off than other women nationwide, the BLS reports. The U.S. median tallied $726 per week for women, or 81.1 percent of the $895 median for men. In 2014, women earned 83 percent of their male counterparts, according to the BLS.

The Show-Me State’s female-to-male earnings ratio has remained below the U.S. level since 2003.

The best state for working women for wages is Hawaii, which had an 87.9 percent female-to-male wage ratio last year. Wyoming had the lowest ratio, at 69 percent.
