Report: Mercy workers wear N95 masks three shifts in a row

Posted online

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Mercy workers have been wearing N95 masks for three shifts in a row across its hospital footprint.

After receiving a tip from an anonymous whistleblower, the Post-Dispatch confirmed the policy with a Mercy spokesperson.

“As part of Mercy’s (personal protective equipment) conservation efforts, it is our policy to have co-workers who use N95 masks wear the same mask for up to three shifts with proper, safe storage between shifts,” said Joe Poelker, the spokesperson.

N95 masks are designed for one-time use to protect against viruses.

The report indicates Mercy, which operates a hospital in Springfield, is violating federal guidelines with its policy.
