Report: Male nurses earn thousands more than women

Registered nurses who are male are earning more per year than nurses who are female, recent research has shown. Only about half of that difference can be explained by factors like education, work experience and clinical specialty.

Nurses currently earn an average $66,973 annually. Male RNs earn nearly $11,000 more on average per year.

Approximately 2.5 million women – and the families they support – are being shortchanged by the gender-based pay difference, say the researchers who conducted the study published Tuesday in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
