KCUR cited multiple Missouri Sunshine Law requests in reporting that Kansas City paid former City Manager Brian Platt $500,000 in a separation agreement this spring.
Platt was fired in Marsh after losing a roughly $1.4 million whistleblower lawsuit. In that suit, the city's former director of communications alleged he was retaliated against after resisting Platt's suggestions to lie to the news media.
Platt had been appointed to the job in 2020 after serving as city manager of Jersey City.
