The owners of JCPenney reportedly made an offer to buy rival retailer Kohl's.
The offer from Simon Property Group and Brookfield Asset Management values Kohl's at more than $8.6 billion, according to media reports.
Those same companies bought JCPenney out of bankruptcy for $1.8 billion in 2020.
