Report: Greene County wages rise 2.9%

As employment increased in Greene County during the third quarter last year, wages followed suit, according to the latest data released Wednesday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

As of Sept. 30, Greene County employers counted some 156,100 workers, a 1.3 percent increase compared to September 2012.

Those workers were paid an average weekly wage of $712 during the third quarter, a 2.9 percent boost from the same quarter of the prior year. Ranked by percentage change, Greene County was 51st in the nation out of the 344 largest counties tracked by the BLS, according to a news release.

Greene County was among 286 counties in the nation to record employment increases through the third quarter.

During the quarter, the U.S. average weekly wage was $922, a 1.9 percent increase compared with the same quarter in 2012, and employment was 134.9 million, up 1.7 percent, the release said.

San Mateo, Calif., saw the largest year-to-year increase in average weekly wages with a 9.9 percent boost.[[In-content Ad]]
