Report: Germany's Bayer exploring bid for Monsanto

German firm Bayer AG is considering making a bid for St. Louis-based competitor Monsanto Co., according to people familiar with the matter who spoke with Bloomberg.

The deal would create the world's largest seeds and farm chemicals supplier.

Monsanto has a market value of nearly $40 billion, and Bayer is worth about $96 billion.
