Report finds St. Louis Public Schools has $1.8B in upkeep costs looming

Upkeep of public school buildings operated by St. Louis Public Schools will cost an estimated $1.8 billion by 2044.

That's according to Illinois-based Cordogan, Clark and Associates, which presented to the school board on Tuesday.

Officials with the architecture firm said nearly half of the 68 schools would need to be replaced or closed in the next 10 years. The firm estimates some $28 million in immediate needs for plumbing and structural work, among other concerns.
