Report: Cleveland-Cliffs mulls potential bid for U.S. Steel

Cleveland-Cliffs is partnering with Nucor in a potential bid for U.S. Steel, sources familiar with the matter told CNBC.

The sources said Cleveland-Cliffs would buy U.S. Steel for cash and then sell off the Big River Steel subsidiary to Nucor, should the deal proceed.

The White House this weekend extended the deadline for Japan's Nippon Steel to end its proposed acquisition of U.S. Steel until June. President Joe Biden recently moved to block the deal.
