Report: Bass Pro to anchor $1.3B Alabama project

Bass Pro Shops will anchor a $1.3 billion retail and commercial development in Decatur, Ala., The (Athens, Ala.) News Courier reports.

The project, dubbed Sweetwater, is planned for 540 acres at Alabama 20 and Interstate 65/565. The first phase will include 125 acres anchored by Springfield-based Bass Pro and including a major hotel and convention center, according to the report.

Genesis USA Development LLC announced its plans for the project Monday.

Bass Pro is tentatively scheduled to open in late spring 2009, according to the report. Construction of the hotel and convention center should begin in June, with completion in late 2009 or early 2010, and work on additional retail space is slated to begin in 2009.
