Report: Ameren preparing final offer for Kan. utility

St. Louis-based Ameren Corp. (NYSE: AEE) is preparing a final offer for Topeka, Kan., utility Westar Energy Inc. (NYSE: WR), sources told Bloomberg.

Westar, which is working with Guggenheim Partners, asked bidders to submit offers by May 23.

Kansas City-based Great Plains Energy Inc. (NYSE: GXP) is also considering a bid.
