U.S. Rep. Vicky Hartzler today announced she’s throwing her hat in the ring for the Senate seat Roy Blunt is vacating.

Hartzler, a Republican who represents Missouri’s fourth congressional district that includes Cedar, Dade, Dallas, Hickory and Webster counties, is the latest candidate to seek the seat after Blunt said he would not run for reelection in 2022.

In a video announcement, Hartzler said she would work to combat issues spearheaded by “socialist Democrats,” such as President Joe Biden’s decision to cancel the Mexico border wall project.

“We’re engaged in a winner-take-all contest for the heart, soul and future of America,” Hartzler said in the video. “My record proves I will fight for you and win, defending the Constitution with Missouri values.”

Hartzler first was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010. She represents 24 counties in west and central Missouri. She previously served in the Missouri state house and taught in Lebanon and Belton public schools.

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt, former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens and St. Louis attorney Mark McCloskey also have announced plans to run for the Senate seat.
