Missouri Rep. Sandy Crawford, R-Buffalo, was elected yesterday to the state Senate seat left vacant by Lt. Gov. Mike Parson.
Crawford, who was elected for the District 129 House seat in 2010, defeated Democrat Al Skalicky, a former Bolivar teacher, with 68 percent of the 14,306 votes tallied, according to the unofficial special election results posted by the Missouri secretary of state.
A 30-year banking industry veteran, Crawford succeeds Parson as senator for District 28, which represents Benton, Cedar, Dallas, Hickory, Laclede, Pettis, Polk and St. Clair counties. Parson resigned on Jan. 9 after voters chose him as Missouri’s lieutenant governor.
In the House, Crawford served as chairwoman for the financial institutions committee and as a member of the administration and accounts and pensions committees. During the latest session, she sponsored bills to establish the Missouri Family Trust Company Act, change the law regarding powers of banks and switch up rules governing residential mortgage loan brokers, according to House.Mo.gov.
