Rent prices on the rise nationwide

While the housing market continues to favor sellers in many markets, landlords nationwide might also have the upper hand.

Rent prices rose 3.2 percent nationwide in 2013, according to real estate market research firm Reis. No markets the firm tracks saw average rents decline last year, according to a Fox News report.

Vacancy fell to 4.1 percent in the fourth quarter, as landlords raised rents by an average of 0.8 percent to $1,083 per month. That's below the 1 percent rent increase in the fourth quarter of 2012.
