Regal Entertainment Group to explore possible sale

Knoxville, Tenn.-based Regal Entertainment Group (NYSE: RGC) will explore options including a potential sale, the company said on Monday.

The nation's largest movie theater chain - which bought Portland, Ore.-based Hollywood Theaters in early 2013 and assumed control of its downtown Springfield theater - posted third-quarter earnings that fell to 17 cents per share, compared with 48 cents a share a year ago.

According to the Los Angeles Times, revenue was down 15 percent for the quarter, largely due to a weak summer box-office season.
